2012 CBC COSTA RICA MISSION TRIP

First of all let me say that our beloved Art and Jo are home (thank You, Jesus!) and I am amazed at the unwavering strength and confidence I saw in those two during those extra days we spent together in Costa Rica. What a blessing it is to know you! Your love for God and for one another touched me deeply.

The Charis Bible College Costa Rica mission team consisted of 24 absolutely amazing second year students, one staff leader and two third year students (of which I was one) assisting the team.

Though it is great to be home and in my familiar surroundings, with my best friends/roommates, something in my heart longs for what we left there. What words can I possibly use that could paint for you the landscape, with all its exotic smells and vivid colors, the sounds of the stream flowing through the Garden of Hope, or the wildlife we encountered (from enormous spiders and green bats to pregnant porcupines)?

Or sitting under the pavilion, the vulnerability of baring our hearts to one another for the sake of one another? How do I describe the power of the emotion we experienced as we not only saw, but felt, a deluge of rain coming down from the Heavens and knowing God was speaking?

How can I describe the sheer joy and the sound of laughter that still rings in my ears of the schoolchildren the team was able to reach out to? These two weeks literally changed my perspective on life.

The whole theme of the trip was ‘Going Deeper’, and the retreat must have been designed with this in mind. We lived in community, we really LIVED together! We ate together, we studied together; we did everything together, spent time together, actually getting to know one another. My eyes were opened, and what I began to understand was that this is Kingdom living, and this is His Body, walking together in unity and love. I experienced the most powerful force in the universe…Love. We loved one another, we honored one another, we served one another, and we preferred one another….Jesus said they would know we were His disciples by the love we have one for another…

I understand the power of relationship now in a way I could not before this trip. If I am totally honest, relationship has been my greatest weakness and biggest hindrance throughout my life. I know during this trip, God healed my heart in ways I have yet to understand!

The Costa Rican team, ministry team, all the translators, the chef and his team, the beautiful women that cared for us and kept our rooms and community areas for us, all had a SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE! I learned so much from them; they served us from a heart of love that breaks down any language barrier! I hope they understand the impact they have made on my life.

The Colorado team had wonderful opportunities to share and minister in various venues, from music ministry, women’s and men’s meetings, neighborhood and street evangelism, to church gatherings and actually shared at a public school! We were so blessed by our friends that translated for us…they were with us all week, living with us and walking together with us and with God. I hope to see them again soon!

What impressed me greatly is the way the Lord brought together this Costa Rican body (not just Costa Ricans), and how they walk in peace and love and unity. They take time to hear from God. They really listen to one another and to what the Spirit of God is saying.

This kind of living is what is going to change the world. Eternal life is not somewhere out in the future…it is HERE and NOW! Jesus said (John 17:3), “And this is the real and eternal life, that they KNOW You, the one and only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You sent.”

I believe God placed something deep into the hearts of every person there, something of eternal value, something I know we will celebrate together. I want to remember, cultivate and nurture it, and let it grow into something that others can benefit from.

I want everyone to know the Truth about God. He is NOT distant or angry; He is near to ALL. God is Love. God is passionate. God is full of mercy! The world needs to experience the love of Christ, and this will happen as we learn to value one another. We will value one another when we begin to realize our own value to God. He is not about following a set of rules (which He did away with in Christ)! He is after our HEARTS and wants a living, breathing, growing relationship with us!

This is the life I live and am bold enough to proclaim His Goodness! I am thankful for the weeks I spent in Costa Rica with the CBC team and with KTM’s Jim and Lynn, Coco and Lais, and Douglas and Ileana. Each one invested in all of us and made rich deposits I will treasure forever!

I am forever grateful and appreciative of the opportunities provided and the experiences I had with everyone involved with this trip, whether directly or indirectly. I know the Colorado Springs KTM team has sown their time and love into this project, as well, and I know they are and will continue to be greatly blessed for their labor of love.

Most of all, I thank YOU God for what YOU have given me; Your relentless pursuit of me throughout my lifetime, even though I made my bed in Hell for so many years. You never left me or gave up on me. You never stopped speaking to me, though I was not listening. I thank You for Your UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and Grace, Your influence upon my heart; I thank You for making Yourself known to me when I had no desire to know You. You came, and I could only respond and offer back to You what You provided….I love You, because You first loved me. My desire in this life is to know You more and more…
I will rest in Your Love and Your Peace, knowing You are leading, guiding, directing and ordering my steps in this life…I know You will fulfill every purpose You have for me as I continue to seek You…
    thank You, my God!

Jesus, YOU are my ONE TRUE LOVE…Thank You for Your Resurrection Life, here and now!

  28. Hey there! I’ve been reading your website for a while now and finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from Dallas Tx! Just wanted to say keep up the good work!

    • Hi Ross,

Thanks for your recent comment about the KTM website and your words of encouragement…

They mean a lot to us as we are on the front lines and building the Kingdom of God as Jesus would have us do AND not by the traditions of man or traditions of religion…. but rather base everything we do on what the Word and the Spirit are saying to us.

So again thanks and be led of the Spirit… Jesus speaks to you directly so hear Him ! here is a verse for you.

Mathew 23:8-11 8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ,[b] and you are all brethren. 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

      Kind Regards,

  29. Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely
long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for newbie blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.

    • Tracie… thanks for your comments. I would suggest that you follow your heart and do what really excites you and you have a peace about.

Ask the Lord direction in your life and align His purposes with yours.

Read Ephesians 2:10 and Psalm 37: 3 – 8. Let the Lord speak to you directly in those verses. Write back and let me know what you feel God spoke to you !!

      Jim and Lynn
